provided by Dr Kinga Tibori-Szabó
Nowadays, victims of international crimes are granted various substantive and procedural rights. Nevertheless, precise contours of their participation in trials before hybrid and international criminal tribunals still remain contentious and widely debated both in theory, and in practice. Should the victims be allowed to directly participate in these proceedings? How should they be represented? What type of reparation should be granted to them? Which measures should be adopted to protect them from secondary victimization? Should they be able to appeal decisions which violate their interests? These and many other core issues relating to models of victim participation before international and hybrid criminal tribunals have not been definitively determined yet. Some of these important questions will be addressed during the guest lecture delivered by Dr Kinga Tibori-Szabó who will also share her personal experiences of a practitioner.
